2011 Open Education Conference

We love open and free education, if you do too then have a look at the 2011 Open Education Conference. This event is known as “the annual reunion of the open education family.”

What is Open Education?
Open Education is exactly what the term suggests – it is open: open as in free for use and learning. Digital materials that are freely made accessible for education and learning are known as open educational resources. These materials, courses and qualifications can be re-used for teaching, learning. research and more. Typically this subject matter is made available for free through open licenses.

OER includes different kinds of digital learning materials, usually placed on Virtual Learning Environments.

This event, (October 25-27, 2011) is the eighth annual conference and is held at The Canyons resort in Park City, Utah.

Open educational resources and services are provided by primarily both UK and US individuals and institutions. Generally the community is split into two camps: those that see themselves as revolutionaries and those that try to reform. Some people want open education experiences that result in credentials, while other educators are interested in developing academic and professional qualification competencies.

The Open Education 2011 conference will bring together a broad diversity of educators to discuss the state of open education. According to the organizers:

“Each year the conference serves as the world’s premiere venue for research and development related to open education, while simultaneously creating the most friendly and energetic atmosphere found at any academic conference.”
